What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

About Me

Hi, I’m Deidre — founder of Resilient Roots Functional Nursing.

I am a Registered Nurse with over a decade of experience in emergency medicine, including 6 years as an ER nurse. My years in emergency care gave me invaluable experience, advanced assessment skills, and a deep understanding of physiology and disease processes. I loved the fast pace, the critical thinking, and the diversity of patients and conditions I encountered every day.

But over time—especially after COVID—I began to feel the weight of something deeper.

I saw countless situations where people had reached a crisis point after years of their concerns being overlooked, minimized, or dismissed. Many patients came into the ER desperate for answers they had been unable to find elsewhere. I knew from my functional medicine training that there were often foundational lifestyle, nutritional, environmental, or stress-related factors contributing to their health concerns, and that small interventions could sometimes make profound differences.

The hardest part was knowing I rarely had enough time to truly educate patients in the way they deserved.

Where My Functional Medicine Journey Began

My journey into functional medicine truly began when my son was born in 2022.

Becoming a mother shifted everything for me. The gravity of being entrusted with nurturing another human being physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually deeply impacted the way I viewed health and wellness. Much of my early research into holistic health was driven by a desire to build resilience within him and our family in every aspect of life.

At the same time, my own health began to decline.

Despite “perfect labs,” I experienced growing symptoms and realized I had spent years pouring everything into caring for others while neglecting myself in the process. I began to recognize how deeply chronic stress and burnout had impacted my own wellbeing. I realized that if I continued down the same path, I would eventually find myself in the same position as many of the patients I had cared for in the ER.

So I made one of the hardest and most meaningful decisions of my life:

I left emergency medicine.

I chose to spend more time with my son, prioritize my own healing, and follow the path I felt called toward—a path centered around education, prevention, resilience, and holistic wellness.

My Philosophy

I believe our bodies are incredible creations capable of remarkable healing and adaptation when supported appropriately.

We live in a culture that often asks us to constantly give, perform, produce, and push through while neglecting the foundations that sustain our wellbeing. Sometimes it is the simplest things—sleep, nourishment, nervous system regulation, movement, connection, purpose, and environment—that help bring us back into alignment with ourselves.

Just as even the best car will eventually break down if it is overworked and under-serviced, we cannot expect our bodies to function optimally when we fail to nourish and protect them.

Understanding and respecting the body is one of the first steps toward healing.

My goal is not simply to provide recommendations—it is to help clients better understand their bodies, identify potential root contributors to imbalance, and actively participate in their own wellbeing.

Because knowledge is power.
Healing is participation.
Resilience is built.

Education & Training

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Florida.

I later pursued additional training through the Integrative Nurse Coach Academy in Functional Medicine and Nurse Coaching, becoming board certified as a Nurse Coach through the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC).

My background in emergency medicine strengthened my clinical judgment, assessment skills, and understanding of complex physiology. My training in functional medicine and nurse coaching refined these skills further by teaching me to look deeper—into the often-overlooked lifestyle, environmental, nutritional, and stress-related factors that influence health and resilience.

Over the last year, I have had the privilege of working within a holistic primary care practice where I continue to expand my knowledge and support clients on their own wellness journeys. This work has allowed my own mind, body, and spirit to thrive while reaffirming my passion for helping others reconnect with their health and vitality.

My Commitment to You

I am here to listen to you.

I am here to work alongside you—not to offer one-size-fits-all solutions, but to see you as an individual with unique experiences, goals, and needs.

You do not have to navigate it alone.

I would be honored to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your health, restore resilience, and create a life rooted in wellbeing.
